INST participated in Vietnam Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology (VINANST-13)

Vietnam Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology (VINANST), taking place every two years, is an important scientific event to promote research, development and application of nuclear energy for peaceful uses in Vietnam.

This year, in Ha Long City, the VINANST-13 was organized by Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM) in cooperation with the International Center of Physics (the Category 2 Center under the auspices of UNESCO and belongs to Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) and Quang Ninh Provincial Department of Science and Technology. More than 75 delegates and experts from international organizations and nations with state-of-the-art nuclear science and technology, and 355 Vietnamese participants from research institutes, medical institutions, education and training institutions, management agencies and organizations related to nuclear energy attended the event.

During the three-day conference in August, 235 select presentations (168 oral and 67 poster presentations) were delivered at the plenary session and six technical sections below:

Section A: Nuclear Reactor, Nuclear Power, and Human Resource Training;

Section B: Nuclear Physics, Nuclear Data, Accelerators, and Nuclear Analysis;

Section C: Radiation Measurement, Radiation Safety, and Environmental Monitoring;

Section D1-D2: Application of Nuclear Techniques in Healthcare, Industry and others;

Section D3-D4: Application of Nuclear Techniques in Agriculture and Radiation Technology;

Section E: Radiochemistry, Radiation and Nuclear Chemistry, Nuclear Fuel Cycle, Nuclear Material Technology, and Radioactive Waste Management.

Among those selected, INST delegates gave 20 oral and 5 poster presentations, sharing their latest research results in the past two years. The details were as follows: Center for Nuclear Physics (7), Center for Nuclear Energy (7), Center for Radiation Protection (2), Center for Nuclear Technique Application (3) and Center for Environmental Radioactivity Monitoring & Impact Assessment (6).

After the delivery of all presentations, representatives of the six sections made summary reports on the obtained research results and orientations in upcoming years. At the closing ceremony, the award for the best presentations and the award for the best papers of young scientists were handed out to 7 presenters and 7 young researchers respectively. The INST won one out of seven best papers of young scientists with the report entitled:“Evaluating measurement uncertainty using Monte Carlo method in ionization radiation measurements” by Bui Duc Ky et al.

On behalf of the organizers and sponsors of the event, VINATOM Vice President Tran Ngoc Toan made closing remarks on the well-organized and well-attended conference. He then expressed his appreciation of scientists’ achievements in the field of atomic energy during the period 2018-2019 and acknowledged the contribution of the VINANST-13 to the development and application activities of nuclear science and technology in the context of considerable new changes in the Vietnam nuclear industry for peaceful purposes.
