Institute of Nuclear Science and Skills attended the 12th National Nuclear Science and Technology Conference
The INST has participated in the 12th Vietnam Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology (VINANST-12) on 2-4 August 2017, in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa.
The conference, which takes place every two years, is an important scientific event for Vietnam to boost research and application activities in nuclear energy for peaceful uses. It was first held in 1996. The VINANST has then attracted many scientists and experts from other countries worldwide and become an international conference on nuclear science and technology since 2013. Accordingly, it has provided scientific researchers in Vietnam and abroad with the opportunity to discuss and exchange the latest research findings as well as new applications in the field of atomic energy.
The VINANST-12 was jointly organized by Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM), Vietnam Atomic Energy Society (VAES) and Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Science and Technology. Over 400 participants from Vietnam and more than 40 participants from other nations with state-of-the-art nuclear science and technology took part in the conference. This year, the event was attended by experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
At the conference, 235 qualified scientific reports were delivered, including 21 invited presentations at the plenary session, 135 oral presentations and 79 poster presentations at six technical sessions. Among them, INST delegates gave 25 presentations, sharing their latest research results in the past two years, where:
Nuclear Physics Center (06);
Nuclear Energy Center (03);
Nuclear Safety Center (02);
Radiation Protection Center (04);
Nuclear Technique Application Center (06); and
Environmental Radioactivity Monitoring & Impact Assessment Center (04).

At the end of the three-day conference, participants whose presentations were highly appreciated got awards. Presenters from the INST won two out of the eight best papers and one out of the four best papers of young scientist as follows:
(i) “Application of bonner sphere spectrometer for characterization of neutron calibration field” by LE Ngoc Thiem et al. (Best paper award);
(ii) “Investigation of DPA in the reactor pressure vessel of VVER-1000/V320”by NGUYEN HuuTiep et al. (Best paper award);
(iii) “Design and construction of vertical upward air-water two phase flow” by DINH Anh Tuan et al. (Award for best paper of young scientist).
On 4 August afternoon, the conference was wrapped up with the closing session. Representatives of the technical sessions gave summary reports on research results and orientations of each session in the upcoming time.
On behalf of the organizers and sponsors of this event, Chairperson Dr. TRAN Chi Thanh made closing remarks and expressed his appreciation of scientists’ achievements in the field of atomic energy in Vietnam in recent years. He also put the emphasis on the contribution of the VINANST to the development of nuclear science and technology as well as applications of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
