Institute of Nuclear Science and Skills attended the 5th Nuclear Science and Technology Conference for young officials in the atomic energy industry
From 3 to 4 October 2018, many young researchers of the Institute for Nuclear Science and Technology (INST) participated in the 5th National Conference for Young Researchers on Nuclear Science and Technology, taking place at Nuclear Training Center, Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM), Hanoi.
Since 2010, the National Conference for Young Researchers on Nuclear Science and Technology has been jointly organized, every two years, by VINATOM and Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the VINATOM. This event is intended for young researchers in the field of atomic energy from relevant organizations in the country to exchange and discuss their latest research findings, and simultaneously, identify research orientations as well as objectives needed for the coming years. It is also an excellent opportunity for young researchers to develop their presentation and communication skills.
This year, the 5th Conference brought together over 140 participants nationwide from the organizations under VINATOM, universities, hospitals and other research institutes.

At the conference, 59 qualified research reports were presented at two technical sessions (Sessions A and B), including 39 oral and 20 poster presentations. At Session A, the reports aimed at nuclear energy and safety, nuclear physics, radiation measurement, acceleration techniques and nuclear materials. The other reports at Session B focused on applications of nuclear techniques in socio-economic sectors.
Among those reports, 10 oral presentations and 1 poster, showing the latest research results in the past two years were given by the INST participants, including Nuclear Physics Center (03), Nuclear Energy Center (06), Radiation Protection Center (01) and Environmental Radioactivity Monitoring & Impact Assessment Center (01).
The two-day conference concluded on 4 October. Seventeen prizes, including four prizes A, five prizes B and eight prizes C were awarded to the excellent presenters. The INST participants received the following three prizes:
(i) “Activity concentrations of 210Pb in the aerosol in Hanoi” by Duong Duc Thang et al. (Prize A)
(ii) “In-beam gamma ray spectroscopy of 63,65Cr” by Nguyen Duc Ton et al. (Prize B)
(iii) “R-matrix method and the nonlocal nucleon optical potential” by Doan Thi Loan et al. (Prize C)
Based on the research results, knowledge and experience shared at the conference, it has been regarded as an important scientific event to boost research and application activities in nuclear science and technology for peaceful uses in Vietnam.
