The 15thFollow-up Training Courseon Radiation Measurement

    In the framework of the Cooperation Program for Nuclear Human Resource Development between Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM) and Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), the 15^thFollow-up Training Course on Radiation Measurement (RM-15) was held at Hanoi-NuTEC Center, Institute for Nuclear and Technology (INST).25 participants from several hospitals, science and technologydepartments, radiation monitoring stations and companies in the field of radiation technology around the country attended the RM-15.

     During the week-long course from 25 to 29 June,ten informative lectures composed oftheoretical and practical sessionswere delivered by Vietnamese instructors. The exerciseswere carried out on the available equipment supported by Japan.

     Conducted at the INST as an annualfollow-up training course, the RM-15provided the participants with both basic and specialized knowledge regardingradiation issues. The theoretical lectures aimed atinteraction of radiation with matter,radiation measurement techniques and instrumentation, environmental sample analysis methods and liquid scintillation detection methods.For practice, all participants were involved in the experiments, including determination ofthe maximum beta-ray energy, laboratory gamma spectrometry measurement, liquid scintillation measurement,understandingand using portable dose rate meters.

       At the end of the course, all trainees who had good evaluation results received certificates of participation in the course.

    On behalf of the host organization, INST Deputy Director, Assoc. Prof. Pham Duc Khue made closing remarks and expressed his appreciation for the efforts of all instructors and participants during the course. He hoped that useful information and professional skills gained from the lectures and exercises could enable the trainees to enlarge their knowledge of radiation measurement and make practical applications in their organizations. He also expected that the trainees would make a significant contribution to the establishment of a close connection between the INST and other radiation-related organizations.
