The 16th Follow-up Training Course on Radiation Measurement
Within the framework of the Cooperation Program for Nuclear Human Resource Development between Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM) and Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), the 16th Follow-up Training Course on Radiation Measurement (RM-16) was held at Hanoi-NuTEC Center, Institute for Nuclear and Technology (INST), from 1 to 5 July 2019. The course attracted 20 participants from six provincial departments of science and technology, and five organizations in the field of nuclear science and technology around the country.
During the week-long course, Vietnamese instructors delivered seven lectures and facilitated four hands-on laboratory experiments with the available equipment supported by Japan. Annually conducted at the INST as part of follow-up training courses, the RM-16 provided the participants with knowledge and skills regarding radiation issues, both basic and specialized, including: radiation measurement methods and dose quantities; devices and techniques commonly used for beta, gamma radiation detection and measurement; liquid scintillation counting; activation analysis method; portable dose rate meters and their performance characteristics.
At the end of the course, the participants took an assessment test that allowed them to see where their knowledge was strong and which issues they need to review for more solid understanding. All participants got good evaluation results and received certificates of participation in the course.
The RM-16 ended with the speech by Mr. Pham Duc Khue, INST Deputy Director. He highly appreciated the efforts of all instructors and participants throughout the week of the course and hoped that the participants could make use of efficient knowledge as well as skills gained from the course for a strong contribution to radiation-related work in their organizations. He then made a brief introduction of the INST’s ongoing R&D activities and raised his expectations for future cooperation possibilities between the INST and the participants’ organizations.
